Self Promotion

A lot of restaurant/pub owners forget one major consideration when ordering custom printed products… if you put your name on it, make sure it has a usage outside your establishment. Prior to the non-smoking movement, the number 1 outside advertising medium was matchbooks & box matches. In every successful restaurant you would find imprinted matchbooks & box matches advertising and promoting their establishment.

Today, restauranteurs still use this medium, but in smaller quantities. Looking for a product that will promote your establishment outside your restaurant/pub? A product that your customers will appreciate, use daily and will be seen by other family members and co-workers? How about imprinted coffee mugs, 16oz glasses and beer mugs? These products can be given away as promotions, for birthdays or even sold as gift items.

Good points…I would note that as someone who really doesn’t comment to blogs much (in fact, this may be my first post), I don’t think the term “lurker” is very becoming to a non-posting reader. It’s not your fault in the least , but perhaps the blogosphere could come up with a better, non-creepy name for the 90% of us that enjoy reading the posts.

Just killing some time on Digg and I found your entry. Not typically what I like to learn about, but it was definitely worth my time. Thanks.

I agree with all of the comments above. What about branding a restaurant in the Check Presenters? A built-in mini billboard enabling you to insert an ad to promote and communicate to your customers. Wouldn’t you like to reach out to each and every table at your establishment and inform them of what is coming up in the near future, whether it be a prefix menu for Mothers Day, a jazz night promotion, a new dish, a wine dinner, specials at the bar…?
Your check presenter can become a “PUSH Media” driving revenue to the establishment. You can reach each table in a different way through your Check Presenters.

This isn’t exactly a promotional “product” but how about posting a special or some type of advertising on the inside doors of the restroom stalls? I’ve seen this at a few convenience stores, where they post their in-store specials and you have nothing better to do while you’re just sitting there, than read them!! Sounds strange but it’s not a bad idea. Comments?

      Hi Nancy,
That is a great idea! I have seen them in bathrooms (on walls and stalls) from convenience stores, clothing stores and clubs. It was just “strange enough” to get my attention. The ingenuity left an impression on me.

What about the napkins??!! I think you’re forgetting one of the most powerful spots for operators to have their logos printed and that’s on their tabletop. Whether it’s placemats, napkins, tablecovers, napkin bands, or coasters those are the items your customers notice.

I couldn’t agree with you more. The word “Brand” literaly means to burn, so to make sure your brand stands out (or is burnt into the minds of your customers/consumers) over the other restaurants in your area look for something that the consumer can take home or be seen in public. Thank you for your blog post!
