Marketing Description:

Garbanzo beans are medium to small in size, about 3/8 inch.  This bean originated in the Near East.  They are plum and hard as well as buff-colored with a tiny "beak" at the top. Garbanzos have a full-bodied flavor, are nutty and rich and have chestnut crunch. This variety of beans is one of most popular bean varieties in Europe and Western Hemisphere.  

The ancient Romans though that this bean resembled a ram's head with curling horns and they use to refer it to as arietinum or "ramlike".  The Spaniards named it "garbanzo", but it is known as a chick pea in many lands. And in Italy this beans is called Ceci. In the U.S., its golden color adds sunshine and flavor to any mixed bean salads.  

In India garbanzos are used to make flour called garam besan.  But most famous for the dish hummus, garbanzos are used to make this Middle Eastern traditional dish.  Hummus is made with pureed garbanzos, sesame paste, garlic and lemon.     

When growing their pods, chick-peas harbor only one or two seeds. They are typically grown in Washington and Northern Idaho.
